Scholarships – GHS Seniors
Cumberland Soccer Club periodically awards scholarships to High School Seniors who are graduating from Greely High School and will be attending post secondary schooling on a full-time basis. Scholarship candidates have participated in the club and demonstrated a commitment to the CSC soccer community throughout their high school career. Candidates are selected by GHS Varsity coaches and approved by the CSC board. There is no application or essay.
Please contact Bree Berthiaume at berthiaume@maine.rr.com for more information about the scholarship.
Fees
CSC charges an individual player fee to be considered for inclusion on a Classic League team. CSC may offer early-bird discounts. The fee covers team registrations to Soccer Maine, player passes, player insurance, referees, equipment, field usage fees, coaching education and training, the CSC website, Labor Day weekend and Columbus Day weekend tournament registrations, uniforms and other Club costs. The fee is set by the CSC Board of Directors prior to registration for each season and must be paid in full.
Refunds of Player Fees
Any parent requesting a refund of registration fees for children they registered shall be granted a full refund of registration fees prior to evaluations. Refunds may be given after evaluations, but CSC reserves the right to maintain a small processing fee. Please see the Fall Registration page of our website for details on current season fees.
Financial Aid
CSC offers financial aid for players. No player will be denied an opportunity to play for financial reasons.
Parents should contact Molly Costable @ registrarcscme@gmail.com
Playing Up Policy
Due to the July 31 cut off date, there will be certain players whose birthdates technically place them in an age group below that of their classmates or peers. These players may request a “grade appropriate” play up. Every effort is made to allow players to remain with their school class peers assuming the overall numbers allow and assuming the player is capable of playing at the higher age group. Any player who falls into this ‘grade appropriate’ category, and desires to play up to an age group higher than where their birth date places them so they are with their classmates, must request this on the CSC registration form. All play up requests are reviewed individually and must be approved by the CSC Board of Directors.
All play-up requests are also subject to the following criteria:
- Coaches and/or age group coordinators from both age groups must approve the play up request.
Players must attend tryouts for both age groups. - A player will NOT be approved for a play up if they “displace” a player at the higher age group, ie cause someone to be cut due to roster limitations.
- It should also be noted that once a ‘grade appropriate’ play up request has been approved, that player would be allowed to play up automatically for all subsequent years (irrespective of the “displacement policy”. Once one is “Up” you stay “Up” for the duration of your CSC participation.
- The only other “play-ups” considered will be those that are club initiated. There are some situations where the club will ask a player or players to play up if it makes the overall numbers for the teams more favorable. This is done to avoid “cuts” and attempt to facilitate teams including the highest number of players. All club initiated play ups will be valid for that year only and reviewed each year.
Time Commitment
Player Commitment
The Club supports a Travel soccer program. Players are expected to play games during the weekend and participate in practice sessions during the week. Typically, most teams hold two practices per week. However, at the 7th and 8th grade level, teams may practice less, due to many players participating on school-based teams. Practices may be more frequent near the end of the season as teams prepare for the end of season tournaments. Games are held primarily on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Game opponents will be made up of other travel teams throughout the State of Maine.
All Cumberland Soccer Club teams are expected to participate in the club-sponsored Labor Day weekend tournament, and most teams also participate in a Columbus Day weekend tournament.
All Club teams are expected to participate in either the State Challenge (Division 1) Cup, Anthem (Division 2) Cup playoffs or Year End Festivals at the end of the regular season.
CSC Season Timeline
Mid-late July: Parents hear from coaches and find out which team their child is on.
August 14: CSC teams are allowed to begin practicing. Not all teams will choose to hold practices in August. August practices will not necessarily be at consistent times or at the times they are held during the season . CSC teams need to share fields with high school teams and therefore may need to practice at later times. Consistent practice times begin when school starts.
